www.xfire.com/Its a program that allows you to see if your friends are online, see what game they're playing, logs your hours playing games, allows you to message them, etc. Very nifty app, in my opinion almost essential

yeah it's really helpful, especially when someone needs to get your attention and msn or yim or aim isn't loud enough over your music, and then the little xfire window pops up and you're like OMG!
